PLANNING & ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 6 SEPTEMBER 2022
There are 2 benefits to Council and the Noosa community from partnering with external agencies
such as TMR to offer Council land as offset receiving sites.
1. It helps achieve Council’s target for no net loss of ecosystem values.
2. Financial benefit: Although specific financial arrangements haven’t been negotiated, it is
likely that financial payment from TMR for land based offsets would be at least $20,000 per
hectare over the life of the offset project. This is for assisted regeneration and some infill
planting of Koala food trees (such as is occurring in the Yurol Ringtail project). Full
environmental reconstruction on a cleared site would be more expensive. These funds would
directly benefit local businesses and their staff through provision of environmental restoration
services and materials. The McKinnon Drive property has the potential to attract funding of
$1.2 million over the 61 hectares of land available for offsetting.
