Appendix H - Biodiversity Code
Attached to the e-mail Multiple Housing Type 3 Retirement & Special Needs (48 units) - MCU18/0009.
3.0 SUMMARY
The site mapped under Noosa Council Biodiversity Overlay mapping as an Environmental Protection area, but the vegetation is
not mapped as remnant under the Vegetation Management Act 1999.
The retained vegetation provides good habitat values with existing impacts including edge effects, fragmentation from adjacent
road, weed incursion (particularly on the western edge) and proximity to residential areas.
The site contains Koala habitat trees that will be impacted by works. The site is sub-optimal koala habitat but may be used
as a corridor or a dry season refuge.
The presence on site of the listed invertebrate species Endangered Swamp crayfish (Tenuibranchiurus glypticus) (as listed in
NC Act) in Melaleuca wetland highlights the habitat values of the vegetation.
Due to the presence of ponded water and vegetation type, it is expected the site is able to support listed frog species:
Tusked Frog (Adelotus brevis), Wallum Froglets (Crinia tinnula) and Wallum rocket frog (Litoria freycineti).
The proposed development will result in retention of approximately 25% of the existing native vegetation on site. It will continue
to provide a corridor with the adjacent Lomandra Park.
The Endangered Swamp Crayfish habitat is mostly retained with approximately 0.21ha of the original 0.26ha of the estimated
habitat area being retained.
The proposed rehabilitation plan will involve weed removal in the retained vegetation and 0.7559 ha of Lomandra Park to improve
the values in this vegetation.
