Native Foresters
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Native Foresters has been commissioned by Callaghan and Toth Engineers to conduct a
flora and fauna survey and habitat assessment of the vegetation within Lot 2 RP177554,
known as Carramar Noosa Care (the Carramar site).
This report assesses the fauna and flora which are present and the ecological condition
of the subject site. Recommendations relating to mitigating the potential impacts on
breeding habitats of species of conservation significance are made where considered
relevant to proposed construction works.
1.1 Objectives of the report
The objectives of the report are as follows:
To assess and describe the existing vegetation on the site.
To determine the presence of any State and/or Commonwealth listed fauna and
flora species.
To provide an ecological assessment of habitat values on the site including potential
breeding habitat for native species, with a particular focus on State and
Commonwealth listed species.
To comment on the potential impacts of any proposed works on native flora and
fauna, and their breeding habitat.
1.2 Site description
The subject site encompasses the footprint of a proposed extension to the Carramar site
situated at 186 Cooroy Noosa Road, Tewantin. The survey area encompasses an area
in the east of the lot that contains a mowed parkland with scattered shade trees and
landscaped garden beds, pagodas, stormwater outlets and footpath as well as a natural
area of Melaleuca woodland and wetland vegetation. This represents a total area of
approximately 8,000m2. Refer to Figure 1 for a Locality map and Figure 2 for a Survey
area map.
Elevation slopes gently to the south and east, falling from approximately 15 metres to 7
metres above sea level (asl.) Ephemeral ponding and subsurface moisture was noted
near the stormwater outlets and across the south eastern boundary. Seasonal
inundation is likely to extend throughout the central section of the survey area following
rainfall events.
Geology on site is coastal alluvium associated with recent Quaternary alluvial systems
(Land Zone 3).
The survey area adjoins a remnant palustrine wetland and dam to the east (lot270
MCH4647) which drains into a tributary to Wooroi Creek. To the west, the site adjoins
the Carramar Noosa Care Centre, with residential lots to the north and Tewantin
National Park to the south across the Cooroy Noosa Road.
