PLANNING & ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 12 MARCH 2019
Map 2 above demonstrates that the highest risk areas are located on major roads in and around
Noosa Heads, Tewantin and Doonan. These localities are also the most populated (more
potential observers of koalas) and with the highest traffic volumes. Other areas in the shire
(Pomona, Ringtail Creek, Black Mountain etc.) also have a number of koala sightings, but not the
same number of records, potentially because it is less populated and there is less traffic (less
observers).
Council currently has the following koala road infrastructure (not including Qld Transport and
Main Roads (TMR) infrastructure):
Koala exclusion fencing and associated passageways installed when Walter Hay Drive and
Eenie Creek Road were constructed in 2006 and 2008 respectively.
Climbing poles and ladders at Leslie Drive, Grant Street and Edward Street.
Fauna road signs
General street lighting
Speed limit signs
