1. Introduction 1.1 Brief Treesafe Australia Pty Ltd has been engaged by Chris Townsend to carry out an inspection of trees surrounding the proposed house site at Doonan. The arborist brief shall include inspection notes identifying finding from the site visit and recommendations for tree removals and pruning to minimise potential hazards post construction. 1.2 Qualifications and Experience The provisions of the arborist brief are based upon site observations from ground level and the data captured onsite upon the day of assessment. The consulting arborist, Brett Hames has attained an AQF level 5 in Arboriculture (Diploma of Arboriculture AHC 50510). 2. Site Visit and Observations 2.1 Site Visits The consulting arborist liaised with Chris Townsend, property owner of 22 Nylana Way, Doonan on site to discuss the arborist brief on the 15th of September 2023. A site inspection was carried out to collect data for the provisions of the arborist brief. The arborist brief is based upon the evidence gathered at the time the assessment. All tree inspections are performed from ground level without detailed investigation unless otherwise noted within the assessment. The method of inspection performed was a basic level 2 visual tree assessment (VTA) as per ISA guidelines, ANSI A300 Standard for Risk assessment and ISA’s Best Management Practices: Tree Risk Assessment. 2.1.1 Tree Species Species Tallowwood, (Eucalyptus microcorys) Height (Meters) 20 Canopy Spread (Meters) 7m balanced Age Class Semi-mature Species Turpentine, (Syncarpia glomulifera) Height (Meters) 16 Canopy Spread (Meters) 5m balanced Age Class Semi-mature Several other larger species are located around the house site. They include Flooded Gum (Eucalyptus grandis), several Tallowwood (Eucalyptus microcorys), Red Stringybark (Eucalyptus resinifera), Turpentine (Syncarpia glomulifera). 3. Inspection Results: On the day of inspection, the site had recently been cut and filled in order to commence construction works. The cut is on the south and east sides with the fill being to the north and west sides to gain a level pad. Remaining trees surrounding the site appear to be showing good vigour at the time of inspection. Some deadwood is present, this is typical of species and maturity. A Tallowwood (tree 1) and Turpentine (tree 2) at the eastern boundary have sustained significant damage to the root zone as the site cut is all the way to the base of the trees. A larger Tallowwood to the north of these has also has an incursion into the TPZ (Tree Protection Zone) in the site preparation process. Multiple larger species include a Flooded Gum, several Tallowwood, a Red Stringybark, and a Turpentine. These are located to the east and southern sides of the house site. Their canopies encroach towards the proposed construction. The aforementioned Flooded Gum at the northeastern corner of the site has already had recent encroachment pruning. A Turpentine is located at the western side of the house site. This tree doesn’t encroach on the property; however, it is bifurcated with a co dominant leader starting mid-way on the trunk. Approximately 40% of the eastern side of the root zone is covered with fill from the site cut. Trees inspected are only those as directed by Chris Townsend. 4. Conclusion: In conclusion to the inspection results, the Tallowwood (tree 1) and Turpentine (tree 2) at the eastern boundary have up to 50% incursion to the TPZ. As per AS 4970-2009 Protection of Trees on Development Sites, it states that an incursion of any more than 10% is considered a ‘major encroachment’ and certain conditions should apply. These 2 particular trees have sustained damage too great to be able to retain them. I recommend removal of the trees to low stumps and any herbicide application to be avoided to prevent possible translocation to the surrounding trees of the same species. If the stumps are to be removed, I suggest stump grinding opposed to excavation in order to prevent further damage to surrounding trees. Regarding the multiple larger species located around the site. This encroachment/deadwood pruning will be classed as maintenance work. Prune according to AS 4373 Pruning of amenity trees. Work should be performed by a minimum Cert 3 qualified arborist. The Turpentine at the western side of the house site has fill over approximately 40% of the root zone. This may limit water and oxygen uptake to this part of the root zone resulting in declining health of this tree. Follow up consultations by a diploma qualified arborist should be scheduled at 6-month intervals to check on the health and vigour of the retained trees. Any trees with excavation within the root zones require canopy reduction pruning to minimise destabilization caused by work conducted within the TPZ. The general increase of exposure to the elements due to the clearing work are also a contributing factor to this potential destabilisation. 6. Recommendations:
• Ensure all works are carried by a qualified arborist team with AQF 3 or equivalent
experience within the field of arboriculture.
• Ensure all works are carried out within the guidelines of AS 4373, Pruning of amenity
trees.
• Avoid use of herbicide on stumps of any trees to be removed.
• Grind opposed to excavate stumps at edge of cutting if stump removal is required.
• Engage a Diploma qualified arborist for follow up inspections at 6 monthly intervals.
• Refer to the development guidelines AS 4970 Protection of trees on development sites.
• Refer to the guidelines of Noosa Shire Councils tree management principles.
• Retaining of the site cut and batters to prevent or minimise erosion.

7. Appendix 1 - Explanatory Notes • Mathematical abbreviations: > = Greater than; < = Less than. • Measurements/estimates: All dimensions are estimates unless otherwise indicated. Measurements taken with a tape or clinometer are indicated with a ‘+’. Less reliable estimated dimensions are indicated with a '?'. • Species: The species identification is based on visual observations and the common English name of what the tree appeared to be is listed first, with the botanical name after in brackets. In some instances, it may be difficult to quickly and accurately identify a particular tree without further detailed investigations. Where there is some doubt of the precise species of tree, it is indicated with a '?' after the name in order to avoid delay in the production of the report. The botanical name is followed by the abbreviation sp if only the genus is known. The species listed for groups and hedges represent the main component and there may be other minor species not listed. • Height: Height is estimated to the nearest metre. • Spread: The maximum crown spread is visually estimated to the nearest metre from the furthest extent of live lateral branches on one side of the canopy to the tips of the live lateral branches on the opposing side of the canopy. • Diameter: These figures relate to 1.5m above ground level and are recorded in centimetres. If appropriate, diameter is measure with a diameter tape. ‘M’ indicates trees or shrubs with multiple stems. • Estimated Age: Age is estimated from visual indicators and it should only be taken as a provisional guide. Age estimates often need to be modified based on further information such as historical records or local knowledge. • Distance to Structures: This is estimated to the nearest metre and intended as an indication rather than a precise measurement. Frass: A sawdust like after effect from wood and bark chewing/boring insects. Shot Holing: A local area of absent leaf tissue caused by sap sucking or leaf chewing insects. Adventitious Roots: Commonly referred to palm tree root systems, a response caused by a reaction to oxygen. Tilth- The loosened effect of soil in the hole walls and floor. Epicormic growth: Stress shoots, water shoots, re-growth or suckers. Poorly attached, quick growing. SRZ: Structural Root Zone TPF: Temporary Protection Fencing Adventitious shoots: A branch arising from a stem or parent branch having no connection to apical meristems. SRZ: Structural Root Zone CRZ: Critical Root Zone Basic VTA: Detailed visual inspection of a tree & surrounding site that may include the use of simple tools. It requires that a tree risk assessor walk completely around the tree trunk looking at the site, above ground roots, trunk & branches. 8.
