Threats
Removal of vegetation
A pattern of increasing slashing of remnant vegetation (Regional Ecosystem 12.2.12)
over time for runways, tracks and fire trails and fire breaks around buildings on the site
is evident. The below aerial photograph sequence indicate the runway extensions over
time. In 2009 17 hectares of the property was being slashed. By 2016 the area being
slashed increased to 20 hectares as an additional runway was being developed. By
2019 the area being slashed had increased to 23 hectares with the development of a
3'¢ (east -west runway). All this land is essential habitat for ground parrots.
The leaseholder recently requested that Council approve clearing (taller) vegetation
at the approaches to each runway for safety reasons.
