1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background
Native Foresters has been commissioned by Noosa Council (NC) to prepare an Impact
Management Plan (IMP) for the following Endangered, Vulnerable or Near-threatened
(EVNT) species whose breeding habitat occurs or potentially occurs within the footprint of
the Noosa Landfill Expansion Project proposed for the Noosa Landfill and Resource
Recovery Centre:
i. Wallum Froglet (Crinia tinnula) - Vulnerable;
ii. Wallum Rocketfrog (Litoria freycineti) - Vulnerable;
iii. Swamp Crayfish (Tenuibranchiurus glypticus) – Endangered; and
Breeding habitat assessments were conducted at the site in March 2019, January 2021
and February 2021 which resulted in the following determinations:
Suitable habitat for breeding by Wallum Froglets occurs within the works Impact Area.
Calling activity indicative of breeding by Wallum Froglet was detected in the site’s
100 metre buffer, with core breeding habitat confirmed at 200 to 600 metres east
north-east of the landfill. Species utilisation of core breeding habitat areas may
expand into the potential Impact Area under wet conditions.
Potential habitat for Wallum Rocketfrog in seasonally inundated depressions and
ephemeral drainage lines throughout the closed heathland and wetland
communities in the works Impact Area and 100 metre buffer.
Both adult and juvenile specimens of the Endangered Swamp Crayfish
(Tenuibranchiurus glypticus) were found in the acidic, tannin stained pools in areas
of surface expression of groundwater in the works Impact Area and 100m buffer.
Areas occupied by Swamp Crayfish onsite are considered to be breeding habitat for
the species.
As a result of this assessment, an IMP for the above EVNT species has been prepared.
Submission of a Species Management Program (High Risk of Impacts) application
requires the following supporting documentation:
Species Management Program (SMP) for tampering with animal breeding places
(high risk of impacts) application documentation as supplied by the Department of
Environment and Science (DES).
Breeding Places Assessment and relevant mapping for the site to which the SMP
applies. The following documents have been provided by Native Foresters as
follows:
o Fauna and Flora Assessment – Noosa Landfill – Revision 3. Document
No.190707-FF-Rev 3.
o Fauna and Flora Assessment – Noosa Landfill, Northern Section – Revision
2. Document No. 200112-FF-Revision 2.
o This IMP document which describes measures to ensure that immediate and
long-term impacts to EVNT species populations and their breeding habitats
resulting from proposed works are minimised and/or avoided.
