MCU12/0184 - Objection - Faith Wild
Subject: MCU12/0104 From: Faith Wild Date: 2014-08-26T23:12:39+00:00 To: Mailbox Council Mail Faith Wild 359 Cooroy Belli Creek Rd. Cooroy 4563 Ph: 5447 7769 SUBMISSION: MCU12/0104 Intensive Poultry Farm. Top Forestry Road. Ridgewood 4563 My concerns about this proposal are profound on many levels. I wish to make the strongest objection possible regarding this application. The main areas of concern are: NOISE As a resident who leads a quiet, healthy life, the noise levels from this operation will be absolutely intolerable and unacceptable. Heavy truck movements not only during the day, but in the dead of night will have a profound and undeniable adverse affect on my health, well being and my right to a peaceful life. I bought here because of the peaceful rural atmosphere and this will be shattered if the application is approved. My house is located very close to Cooroy Belli Creek Rd. My bedroom is situated at the front of the house and the noise will be inescapable. Head Lights from on coming trucks will shine directly into my window. I will be forced to shut my windows and use heavy curtains in an attempt to mitigate this. The noise, however, will not be able to be shut out. As trucks travel down the hill toward my home, the added noise of air brakes will make the situation even worse. They will then accelerate right in front of my home. Also, there will be invasive noise with forklift movements particularly at night, feeding systems, fan noises, shed cleaning and waste removal. ODOUR The toxic odour coming from the truck movements and the operation itself will have a lasting and devastating effect on local residents. The following is an excerpt from Landline…Reporter…Mary Gearin “I’d describe it as a farm from hell. It’s the most disgusting farm I’ve ever seen in my life and I was brought up on a farm in Ireland and I’ve been here for 24 years with my wife and kids,” Michael O’Brien, a former farmer said. Christmas night was the worst night of my life, you couldn’t describe the smell, “I just wanted to throw up”, Mary O’Brien, a former farmer said. The chicken farm in question has about 140 thousand birds. Last month, it was fined one thousand dollars for constant odour." The stench will NOT be able to be contained and will worsen in the hot summer months. It will carry for miles particularly in this hilly terrain and make life intolerable for many residents. I just did some work in Caboolture with a client who lives about a kilometre from a chicken farm and he told me that not only did the dreadful smell drive him from his home, he discovered a yellow type noxious substance in his drains. He is at present getting it analysed but suspects it is from the farm. The smell from the trucks as they pick up dead birds, transport live birds to slaughter, transport 'waste', clean out sheds and the general stench that will emanate from this operation will make life intolerable. DUST There is no plan to address this issue. The dust coming from heavy trucks, along with the toxic odours, feathers and dander will contaminate local water supplies. Residents will not be able to drink their own water, put their clothes on the line, open their windows or live their lives as they are entitled to. The dust from heavy trucks will be consistent and cannot be mitigated. Normal every day life will be adversely affected in every way. ROAD SAFETY Top Forestry Road, Old Ceylon Road and Cooroy Belli Creek Road are not suitable for heavy trucks. These roads are dangerous and windy and have been known for fatalities. This road is shared by school buses and cyclists. We will be tempting fate by allowing these truck movements to endanger the lives of people using these roads. The roundabouts in town are not made for trucks and there are many residents who will suffer in town itself with the increase of traffic and associated noise both day and night. The retirement Village will be adversely affected and I know the elderly residents are very very concerned. It is simply not fair on any level that they should suffer! I genuinely care about my community and the people in it and want them to have the life they deserve. Everyone is entitled to live in peace, sleep undisturbed and breath clean air. HOUSE PRICES I recently considered selling my home. I was told that it would be difficult, if not impossible to sell, considering this application. Even if I could sell, I would lose thousands upon thousands of dollars. CONCLUSION I would predict that council will be overwhelmed with the amount of complaints received from ratepayers relating to dust, noise, odour and pollution. Where is the waste being taken to now? Does the council even know? Is it within our Shire? One man's profit is not worth all the misery it will cause to hundreds of residents who will be adversely affected. His personal gain will cost us our serenity, health, right to peace and way of life we have all worked so hard for. My recent battle with breast cancer dictates that I must live as healthy and as stress free as possible. The worry and stress this is causing me is affecting my health and should this application be approved, will cause me no end of distress which is detrimental to my healing. My partner also has emphysema and just suffered a TIA. I am very concerned for his well being also. I implore council to reject this application. Sincerely, Faith Wild
