4.2 CONSTRUCTION IMPACTS

Construction impacts on fauna associated with the development are similar to the clearing
impacts detailed in Section 4.1. Impacts related to construction activities include:

  ● Entrapment: During construction, the increased presence of machines and vehicles
is likely to increase the risk of entrapment, which can result in high stress, injury, or
death. Terrestrial fauna can also be trapped in pits and trenches. Thorough
procedures for machinery checking are to be followed to limit the impact on fauna.
  ● Risk of injury from construction material: Barbed wire, nets and other construction
material can cause entanglement, physical injury or death to fauna. Falling into
uncovered pits or excavations and exposure / ingestion of hazardous materials /
poisons are other potential impacts related to the construction phase of the
     development.
  ● Vehicle strike: During construction, the increased presence of machines and vehicles
is likely to increase the risk of collision and result in injured or deceased wildlife.
  ● Guard dog attacks: The increased presence of guard dogs on the site may result in
a higher likelihood of wildlife injury, death, stress or disorientation.
  ● Involuntary displacement: Construction can cause high stress to fauna and lead to
them leaving their original habitat. This can increase competition with other fauna
populations for food resources and habitat.
  ● Dust: The dust generated by clearing activities may impact habitat quality and have
direct effects on fauna, such as breathing issues and lack of visibility for avian fauna.

Sections 5.1 and 5.2 outline the management measures required to avoid, mitigate and/or
minimise the abovementioned impacts.
