damaged during the 2022 flooding events in Noosa and;
B. Authorise the Chief Executive Officer to proceed with the necessary funding applications to
the Queensland Reconstruction Authority
REPORT
This report outlines the work resulting from the flooding event the shire experienced on 22 February
where intense rainfall fell over a thirteen (13) day period. Whilst the significant event impacted
properties, business and the local environment, this report focuses on the reconstruction of
essential assets (REPA) which is defined in the DRFA.
It is important to note that whilst this is asset and infrastructure focused, Council continues to work
with the community providing assistance in a variety of ways. The work supporting the community
in this way is not noted in this report.
1. Background
On 22 February 2022, a weather event resulted in intense rainfall which continued for 13 days.
The resulting floods impacted properties, public assets, critical assets, businesses, local
environment and the community. Noosa Shire Council opted to trigger an activation to access
support via the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) which is the jointly funded
program between the Australian and State Governments. In Queensland, the Queensland
Reconstruction Authority (QRA) is the agency administering the majority of grants supporting
Council’s with recovery costs associated with disaster. These funding mechanisms are phased to
provide financial assistance at different stages during recovery.
