SPECIAL MEETING AGENDA 27 JUNE 2018
Schedule 1 Project
The Project is the proposed Yurol and Ringtail Forest Conservation Project.
The Association’s vision which led to the development of the concept of the Project is that
no later than 2030, at least 90% of the 2,400 ha of land (approximately) within the current
Yurol and Ringtail State Forest areas will have transitioned to National Park under the
Nature Conservation Act 1992, formally connecting the Cooloola section of the Great Sandy
National Park with the Tewantin National Park and permanently protecting this highly valued
Koala corridor and environmentally significant land for the benefit of the Noosa and broader
Queensland community as well as interstate and international visitors.
In that context Council formalised the concept of the Project which at a headline level is
intended to comprise and/or achieve as the case may be:
e Areas of these State Forests not subject to Plantation Licence or required for the
next five years for State purposes to be transferred direct to National Park.
e Council, the State and the Noosa Parks Association together funding a payment to
HQP in return for which HOP will:
o immediately cease hardwood logging in the HQP Licence Area;
© progressively over 5 years wind up its pine harvesting in the HQP Licence
Area; and
o Ata time or times to be agreed but in any event within 5 years surrender the
HQP Licence and permanently cease harvesting in the HQP Licence Area;
e Council obtaining from the State an appropriate.form of protected area tenure over
the HQP Licence Area;
e Council appropriately rehabilitating the HQP Licence Area over a period intended to
be not more than 5 years; and
e Atthe end of the rehabilitation period the conversion by the State of the rehabilitated
HQP Plantation Area-to National Park. for environmental conservation purposes.
