Details of Submission I (We), the undersigned make the following submission: For the last 6 months I have asked the question “what is the safe distance from a broiler farm to collect rain water for human consumption. Inghams said they would look into it but failed to get back to me. Four of the Noosa Councillors responded to my question but none knew the safe distance. The deputy premier, Jeff Seeney’s office sent me separation distances for Broiler Farms and the Eligibilty Criteria And Standard Conditions document (ERA 4- Poultry Farming) and suggested I contact my local council and or the Health Department. Greg Blumke from Queensland Health Services stated some industries and activity can contaminate drinking water. He also sent me the ERA 4 document drawing my attention to minimum buffer distances between Poultry Farm complexes and residential dwellings. Page 2 states that no house should be closer than 1000 Metres from a sub 200,000 bird broiler farm. And that my local council should be contacted about suitability. It is my submission that council should reject this application as there are several houses inside this distance. When I asked for separation distances for broiler farms with over 200,000 birds, Dan from the office of Mr Mitchell Furness, Manager Environmenatal Regulations, Animal Industries DAFF said an individual site assessment had to be made by this office and was amazed that the applicant had failed to do so. I am still waiting for information from this office on what is the safe distance to collect rain water from a Broiler Farm. Steve Jones I will pass on correspondence from the Deputy Premier’s office and Greg Blumke from QLD Health if you request.
