3.2.2. South East Queensland Regional Plan 2017
The South-East Queensland Regional Plan 2017, also known as ShapingSEQ (SEQ Regional Plan), was
released on 11 August 2017. As prescribed in Section 26(2)(a)(i) of the Planning Regulation 2017, the SEQ
Regional Plan represents an assessment benchmark that the assessment manager must have regard to.
The purpose of the SEQ Regional Plan is:
…to guide the future of the South-East Queensland region, prepare in collaboration with the region’s
12 local governments. The plan draws inspiration from the community.
In order to achieve this purpose, the SEQ Regional Plan sets forth a land use pattern. The site is located
within the Urban Footprint, which identifies land predominantly allocated to provide for the region’s urban
development needs to 2031. The Urban Footprint is to accommodate the full range of urban uses such as
industry, business, housing, infrastructure and open space projected to be required over the next 20 years.
When considering the nature of the proposal, the proposed development accords with the objectives,
principles and overall intent of the SEQ Regional Plan as the proposed development constitutes
development within the Urban Footprint.
An extract of the Regional Plan mapping is provided in Figure 12.
