Ecological Assessment Report for Proposed Hinterland Adventure Playground – Noosa Shire Council
August 2109 by Noosa & District Landcare
Under the Water Act 2000, the construction of two viewing platforms over Cooroy Creek (requiring
removal of a small amount of vegetation and excavation within the bed and bands of a water
course), will require an application of a permit to Department of Natural Resources, Mines & Energy
(DNRME) by the owner of the property. The required permit is a ‘Riverine Protection Permit’ (RPP).
Through the assessment undertaken for this report, NDLG has determined that this project will not
impact on any remnant TEC’s, internationally or nationally important wetlands, lakes and springs.
The project will not significantly impact any documented EPBC and or NCA listed threatened species
populations or their habitats within the proposed work areas, however precautionary actions are
recommended to alleviate impact to species during construction.
It should be taken into consideration that the aim of the long term revegetation of this site over the
last 20 years is to connect threatened Ecological Communities both upstream (12.3.1) and
downstream (12.3.2) of the site, and to improve freshwater aquatic habitat values. Therefore
appropriate caution and buffers need to be set in place before construction begins to manage the
impact of development on environmental values. NDLG recommends best practice management,
including but not limited to the construction of exclusion barriers and installation of appropriate
sediment control methods to limit the disruption of the revegetated riparian zone of Cooroy Creek.
