Ecological Assessment Report for Proposed Hinterland Adventure Playground – Noosa Shire Council
August 2109 by Noosa & District Landcare
schedule 21, part 2, section 2(h)(i) of the Planning Regulation 2017. For confirmation mapping
regarding this legislation please refer to Appendices D – E.
It is the opinion of NDLG that the car park construction on the Ritek site will not impede on any
regrowth vegetation or effect any Ecological Communities in any way, providing suitable barriers are
installed to prevent damage or sediment runoff into the water way.
Further, clearing of planted sedge vegetation within the constructed drainage line through the
centre of the site, will also not trigger any approvals required under State VMA legislation.
4.3 Nature Conservation Act 1992
The protection of NCA vulnerable fauna species and plant species such as Mallotus megadontus
(Toothed Mallotus) is required under the NCA 2000.
Protection of the single Mallotus megadontus plant is compatible with the proposed development,
being located outside of the footprint of the works.
Protection of potential fauna species such as Adelotus brevis (Tusked Frog) which may present itself
in a summer period survey within the impact area, is possible through the use of Spotter Catchers
prior to and during construction and vegetation clearing within riparian areas. Spotter Catchers can
locate and translocate any individual frogs. Please note that it is recommended further amphibian
surveys be undertaken during the months of December through to March after a rain period, as this
is the peak calling and breeding season with environmental conditions at an optimum for frogs.
4.4 Water Act 2000
Under the Water Act 2000, the construction of two viewing platforms over Cooroy Creek (requiring
removal of a small amount of vegetation and excavation within the bed and banks of a water
course), will necessitate a permit to be issued by the Department of Natural Resources, Mines &
Energy (DNRME) to the owner of the property. The required permit to be sought is a ‘Riverine
Protection Permit’ (RPP).
RPP’s are of no charge but may take 30 business days or more to process. Applications can be made
