REPORT
A development application for signage for the Shell service station at 140-142 Eumundi Noosa
Road was approved by delegation on 4 September 2018 subject to conditions. The application
sought approval for the following signs:
 1 x illuminated 5m high Pylon sign
 4 x non-illuminated spreader signs measuring 1.6m x 1m each
 1 x illuminated Shell logo measuring 1.2 x 1.2m
 1 x Night Owl fascia sign – 4m x 0.6m
 Illumination of the canopy with corporate colours
The approval included a number of conditions which sought to limit the extent of signage and the
number of illuminated signs. The applicant suspended the appeal period and made
representations on 11 October 2018 to the development approval conditions, 7, 10, 11 and 14.
The representations to conditions 7, 10, and 11 were not agreed to, with the representations to
condition 14 to change the illumination times of the approved signage agreed to reflect the
businesses trading hours. Attachment 1 is a copy of the Negotiated Decision Notice.
The applicant subsequently lodged an appeal against the decision seeking to delete conditions 7,
10 and 11 of the Negotiated Decision Notice. Conditions 7, 10 and 11 require the following:
7. The 4 spreader ‘Quality Fuels’ signs (non-illuminated) are not approved (as annotated on
the approved plans) and must be removed within 6 weeks from the date of this approval.
10. No illumination of the stripes is allowed on the canopy face.
11. No illumination of the ‘Shell’ fascia and Night Owl sign is allowed.
