Please find my submission to the proposed broiler farm in Top Forestry rd Ridgewood, below:

I reside in nearby Jorgensens rd, and will be directly affected by the proposed broiler farm.

I strongly object to the proposal on the grounds of:

Increased truck traffic on the unsuitable narrow and winding rural roads.
Belli Creek rd, Old Ceylon rd and Top Forestry rd are school bus routes. Top Forestry rd is a narrow dirt gravel rd. Heavy vehicle traffic travelling from the proposed farm to Cooroy on these roads is simply not safe.

Factory farming incompatible with Biosphere status.
This type of farming is totally incompatible with the ethics behind a Biosphere. This inhumane factory farming does not belong any where near the Noosa Biosphere and will cause irreparable damage to the Noosa Hinterland's reputation as a sustainable, environmentally friendly region.

Dust emissions.
In addition to increased road dust caused by trucks travelling on the dirt road, there will be a dangerous cocktail of dust and chemicals emitted from the sheds through the cooling fans. This is a rural area where everyone relies on their own tank water. These contaminants will be washed from roofs into residents drinking supplies, causing untold health problems.

The Milligan property is steep and the whole area is very hilly with steep valleys acting as water catchments for the Creeks flowing to the Mary River.
In the wet season our own property has water streaming down the hillsides and from underground springs, causing a temporary creek in the valley and washing everything in its path down to Blackfellow creek. I can only imagine the damage caused to the waterways by the poultry shed litter being washed away.
This type of farm is not suitable for this terrain. Spreading the poultry litter on his land will cause the pollution of the entire waterway, as it is normal to have flooding here a few times a year.

I believe this proposal has very little benefits (I cannot think of any except that it will make the Milligans rich at the expense of the many surrounding residents adverse affects to their life styles.)
However it has many harmful affects including huge environmental damage to the quality of the waterways, and therefore the endangered Giant Barred frog and other inhabitants.
The noise, dust, traffic, odour, and contaminants are all unacceptable consequences of this proposal, and I sincerely hope Council agree that this type of farming is not suitable for this area. The residents surrounding Top Forestry rd live on small to medium acreage, 30 minutes drive from Noosa Main Beach, and I for one never dreamt a factory broiler farm would be permitted here.

* Minimal economic benefits to the local community.

	• A serious biosecurity incident could hit tourism hard.

	• Endangered species are at risk from water pollution.

	• Heavy vehicles inappropriate for narrow local roads.

	• Noise, odour and dust will affect many people.

	• It will adversely affect hinterland property values.

	• Sets a precedent for more such approvals.
