Visual Assessment Statement: Car Wash, and Food and Drink Outlet 34 Elm St., Cooroy, QLD
Figure 26 – North Elevation- side (TMC)
52 A small awning projects into the setback of the main structure’s western façade that addresses
Elm Street. The awning assists to modulate the appearance of the main structure’s façade
and contributes to a gradation of building height and bulk to the street from the higher stepped
hip and gable roof forms behind.
Figure 27 – West Elevation- Elm Street (TMC)
53 The awning’s projection has minimal bulk and provides depth to the façade’s appearance. It
also ‘frames’ the façade’s fenestration as a focus that addresses the street. The awning’s
appearance is enhanced by the utilisation of horizontal battens to provide a fascia beneath
the gutter line. The battens, while adding subtle complexity and visual interest to the building’s
appear, also provide a subtle visual reference to ‘character style’ architectural detailing that
complements the dominant hipped and gable roofs that reflect historical building forms.
54 A similar fascia is utilised on the other awnings as an aesthetic element to characterise the
proposed development’s overall appearance. The fascia is complemented by profiled rebates
at the base of the precast walls that contrasts with the wall finish above, which relate to the
human scale and further characterise the proposed development’s appearance.
