EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Advertising devices will no longer be regulated by Council’s new planning scheme. Both
temporary and permanent advertising devices will instead be regulated under a local law when
the new planning scheme comes into effect.
Draft amendments to Council’s local laws have now been prepared to consolidate advertising
device provisions currently operating under The Noosa Plan and two local laws.
The proposed local law amendments (proposed local law) identifies those sign types that are
prohibited, permitted as self-assessable or permitted with approval. The proposed local law
includes specific and general criteria and conditions for new advertising devices to meet and
introduces a new approvals process and annual licencing renewal system.
The majority of existing advertising device requirements have been maintained, with key changes
aimed at prohibiting sign types inconsistent with the character of Noosa, reducing visual sign
clutter within the streetscape and responding to key issues and compliance matters arising from
the advertising signs audit.
