4. Existing environment
The proposal site is set within the Cooran
Tablelands, two kilometres northeast of the
township of Cooran. The site is surrounded by
dense tracts of native forest, as the landscape
transitions from rural landscapes to the National
Park and State forest land.
Much of the land near the site along Tablelands
Road is privately-owned small acreage blocks. V IEW TO MOUNT COORAN FROM THE COORAN TOWNSHIP
Although some of the blocks nearing Cooran are
used for livestock and horticultural farming, the
site and nearby properties are generally lifestyle
blocks, containing residences with rural
outbuildings.
The site is in close proximity to several
residences along Tablelands Road, including
neighbouring properties approximately 100-180
metres northwest and 200 metres south of the
site. V IEW FROM THE COORAN TABLELANDS LOOKOUT

There are several built structures within 100
metres of the proposal site, including a primary
and secondary dwelling, ancillary shed
structures and a shipping container.
There is an existing Telstra facility southwest of
the proposal site at 265 Tablelands Road,
including a 30-metre-high monopole that
currently holds equipment from Telstra,
Vodafone and GWN.
To the northeast of the site, the Tablelands ADJACENT RESIDENCE AND LANDFORM

Lookout (also known as the James McKane
Memorial Lookout) offers southeasterly views
towards the Glass House Mountains including
the volcanic plugs of Mt Pinbarren, Mt Cooran
and Mt Cooroora.
Refer Figure 4-1 Site Context and 4-2 Site
location Plan.
