Noosa Fair Redevelopment – Lanyana Way, Noosa Heads

© 2013 - TTM Consulting Pty Ltd Reference No: 13GCA0108 R02_2.docx

Roof Ceiling Treatments

We recommend all roof/ceiling construction achieve a minimum of RW40. Typical roof/ceiling
construction to achieve the required rating includes steel sheet roof Bradford Anticon 55
insulation or equivalent under, minimum R3.0 160mm thick glasswool batts or equivalent in cavity
and 1 layer of 10mm plasterboard internally. Other roof/ceiling construction may be used
provided it achieves the required RW40 rating.

8.3 Mechanical Plant Noise

As per Council’s information request, mechanical plant noise impacts associated with the IGA
loading area and the 7/11 fronting Noosa Drive were calculated to the proposed onsite residential
receiver 3. Predictions are based on actual noise measurements conducted by TTM. Noise levels
were predicted to be above the criteria during the evening and night periods at the proposed on-
site residences (Receiver 3). As the building (receiver 3) is a part of the proposed development,
building treatments will be specified to ensure that internal noise levels comply with the
requirements.

Mechanical equipment onsite that may require acoustic assessment includes new plant at the
Coles supermarket, new retail and commercial premises (including restaurants), and the tavern.

Because detailed plant selections are not available at this stage it is not possible to carry out a
detailed examination of the ameliorative measures that may be required to achieve the noise
targets. Plant will need to be acoustically treated to achieve the criteria detailed in Section 4.1.3
to prevent noise emissions from adversely impacting the surrounding properties. This may
include selecting the quietest plant possible, or treating the plant equipment with enclosures,
barriers, duct lining and silencers, etc if required to comply with the assessment criteria.

Experience with similar projects indicates that it would be possible to achieve the Council
requirement with appropriate treatment of the plant. This treatment would be determined at the
Building Approval/Construction Certificate stage.

A mechanical plant noise assessment should be conducted by a suitably qualified acoustic person
once plant selections are finalised; and compliance tests conducted after the equipment is
installed to ensure compliance with the criteria. Such measures should also be conditioned in the
Development Approval.
