Tavern Outdoor Dining & Entertaining Area | Design Rationale:
An enclosed courtyard space will form the centrepiece of the proposed Tavern and will embody an experience and expression unique to the subtropical Queensland
outdoor lifestyle. A seamless indoor/outdoor relationship will enable a feeling of extension of the outdoor courtyard with the dining areas.
The courtyard will be a private space, enclosed with a permeable timber screen integrated into the setdown structure awning. The space will only be accessible by
patrons via the internal Tavern area.
R J
A raised timber platform will allow for programmable events or performances within the courtyard and will be surrounded with a large multiuse hardstand area. The
pavement areas will be a mixture of exposed aggregate, neutral toned coloured concrete surfaces, providing a robust and low maintenance surface treatment.
T A variety of robust species will provide interest through form, texture and variations in seasonal colour that reflects the subtropical character of the Noosa Junction
area. A large feature shade tree, an exground Ficus rubiginosa, will provide shade and protection from northerly aspect whilst also being an important visual
terminus from within the courtyard and Tavern area. A mixture of Archontophoenix cunninghamiana and Livistona decipiens of varying heights will be scattered along

Indicative Materials & Finishes Palette | Design Rationale:
The materials and finishes palette has been kept deliberately simple and robust to respond to the coastal setting and to reinforce the clarity of the
landscape and architecture.
A mixture of surface treatments will be used throughout the streetscape and landscape areas. Formal pedestrian crossings will delineated with the
continuation of the pavement treatment through the roadway and will be highlighted through exposed aggregate, coloured concrete with a saw-cut
patterning. The pedestrian ‘spine’ will be highlighted with feature grey sandstone pavement sets. The general pavement areas will be a mixture of
complimentary exposed aggregate, neutral toned coloured concrete surfaces reflecting the coast context and the existing Noosa Junction palette.
Redressed, salvaged hardwood will be utilised in feature seating forms and screening reflecting the screening and timber used throughout the
architecture.
The furniture palette will incorporate robust materials, such as stainless steel fittings and fixtures and hardwood timber, and will be based on the current
‘Urban Improvement Areas Palette’ prepared by Council. This will include rubbish bins, recycling bins, bicycle racks, drinking fountains and general park
seating.
Proposed artwork sculptures will be integrated within the broader landscape design reflecting the coastal environment and local culture of the Noosa
Junction area. Integrated artwork will address the objectives established in the ‘Draft Sunshine Coast Council Public Art Policy Document’. It is
suggested that integrated artworks would be best positioned along Pinaroo Way linking Arcadia plaza through to Pinaroo Rotary Park, as well as along
the pedestrian ‘spine’, providing a cohesive, wayfinding element through the site. Due to the site topography and proposed vegetation character, it is
suggested that the integrated artwork be a series of complimentary vertical elements. (Artwork design and specific site location subject to future design
and commissioning)
Potential integrated artwork within landscape areas will provide a visual cue and wayfinding within the precicnt. Vertical forms will be interwoven throughout the landscape. Integrated outdoor dining rooms will reflect the quintessential Queensland lifestyle and will incorporate lush tropical plantings and permeable timber screens.
