Tavern Outdoor Dining & Entertaining Area | Design Rationale:
An enclosed courtyard space will form the centrepiece of the proposed Tavern and will embody an experience and expression unique to the subtropical Queensland
outdoor lifestyle. A seamless indoor/outdoor relationship will enable a feeling of extension of the outdoor courtyard with the dining areas.
The courtyard will be a private space, enclosed with a permeable timber screen integrated into the setdown structure awning. The space will only be accessible by
patrons via the internal Tavern area.
R J
A raised timber platform will allow for programmable events or performances within the courtyard and will be surrounded with a large multiuse hardstand area. The
pavement areas will be a mixture of exposed aggregate, neutral toned coloured concrete surfaces, providing a robust and low maintenance surface treatment.
T A variety of robust species will provide interest through form, texture and variations in seasonal colour that reflects the subtropical character of the Noosa Junction
area. A large feature shade tree, an exground Ficus rubiginosa, will provide shade and protection from northerly aspect whilst also being an important visual
terminus from within the courtyard and Tavern area. A mixture of Archontophoenix cunninghamiana and Livistona decipiens of varying heights will be scattered along
J
throughout the courtyard space, softening the scale of the Tavern building.
A sculptural play space will be located within the courtyard around the large shade tree. A mix of colourful soft-fall mounding, boulders and sculptural play elements
