GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 13 JANUARY 2020
Council’s representatives on the group are the Mayor and Cr Jackson. Cr Wilkie attends as an
observer in his capacity as the Council representative on Tourism Noosa. Our State member
(Sandy Bolton) also attends the meetings as an observer. The CEO has been facilitating the
meetings of the STSRG.
Attachment 1 to this report is an update report from the STSRG regarding progress to date. This
report outlines the various issues that the STSRG has been dealing with and the update report
should be self-explanatory in terms of the issues being discussed by the STSRG. Key points to
note are:
The focus of the group has been on how we can manage the success of our tourism sector
both now and into the future so that residential lifestyle is not adversely affected.
The STRRG has not yet been able to reach agreement on a written statement or accord
that could be signed off by all participants.
The report in attachment 1 is intended to be an update on the activities of the STSRG to
date, not an action plan or roadmap for future actions.
While there have been some differences of opinion within the group, there has also been
much common ground including:
o Recognition that “What is good for the resident is also good for the tourist.”
o With significant population growth forecast in the SEQ, the impact of the drive in day
visitor will continue to increase.
o It is important to plan for the future now.
The STSRG report references some research undertaken by Tourism Noosa regarding the
impact of tourism. That research was co-funded by Council and a copy of the full report is
attachment 2. Key details of that research are summarised at pages 5 to 6 of the STSRG report.
The STSRG is not intending to meet again before the March 2020 elections.

Finance
The STRWG has no specific budget allocated.
Risks & Opportunities
As indicated in the attached report, it is critical that Noosa properly plan for its future in light of
current trends and future population growth in the South-east Queensland area. A failure to plan
may risk additional impacts on local lifestyle and the visitor mix. The STSRG provides an
opportunity for these issues to be explored with a cross-section of representatives from key
community groups.
