Notes:
(1) The implications for a particular situation are to be determined by all parties to the risk assessment;
these are only given as a general guide.
(2) Judicious use of dual descriptors for Likelihood, Consequence and Risk to reflect the uncertainty of
the estimate may be appropriate in some cases.
Bedrock was encountered at generally shallow depths.
Slopes around the site varied from a gentle natural gradient up to 30%.
There were no signs of any previous or existing slips.
The site should be stripped of any topsoil containing organic matter from the cut and fill areas, and stockpiled
for later use, if required. A stripping depth in the order of 0.2m is indicated from the information gathered at
the investigation locations to remove the topsoil containing organic matter.
No colluvium was encountered at the pit locations. However, if colluvium is encountered during the major
earthworks, all colluvium must be removed. No fill is to be placed over any colluvium.
With bedrock at shallow depths, it is recommended that all footings be founded through any fill and natural
strata and into the bedrock. All footings for the residence and any potential retaining walls must be founded
into the bedrock and resist any lateral movement of the soil strata above.
All site preparation work should generally be carried out in accordance with AS3798-2007 ’Guidelines on
Earlhworks for Commercial and Residential Developments’.
Provided the above recommendations are implemented, the proposed structure and earthworks may be
constructed.on this site.
The maintenance of effective drainage is critical to the long term stability of the site. It is understood all
structures yvill be provided with suitable drainage and will be designed and certified by a structural engineer.
With regards to the potential to use the clay on site for a future dam, the Emerson Class test produced a
result of 2 which indicates that the soil present on site is considered dispersive. Thus, the clay may be
problematic for use as a dam wall material.
