MCU14/0106 Submission PM Support - Irene Hurley
Subject: Noosa Civic Expansion Plan From: IRENE HURLEY Date: 2015-07-15T22:04:57+00:00 To: Mailbox Council Mail Hi there I would like to give my support to the application for an extension of the Noosa Civic. I supported the first submission which was turned down. I now feel that this chance to expand the only real shopping experience in Noosa should not be missed. If it had been allowed first time around it would already be up and running now. The longer it is left the more expensive it becomes and there is less chance of it becoming a reality. Although Noosa has a population cap of sorts and wants to remain undeveloped with height restrictions etc. it still needs to cater to the needs of a growing population whether everyone likes it or not. The proposed plan is impressive and would compliment the existing area which is far too small. I agree that we don't want high rise and anything else that redefines what is a beautiful and peaceful part of the world but a shopping centre certainly won't be detrimental to this goal. As it is most people have to go to Maroochydore to shop and the opening of the Big Top down there makes that experience even better. You can go there for a few hours, shop and have lunch with friends - a nice experience for everyone and especially so if you are retired (which a lot of people in Noosa are). The lost revenue to Noosa must be quite substantial. The increase in jobs locally would also be beneficial. There are too many fragmented shopping areas. The Junction is forever a white elephant - no matter how much money is thrown at it - it fails to deliver. The money spent on the bus station was ludicrous and hasn't delivered the hundreds of people it was purported to. There was an opportunity to make this area into a pedestrian precinct by closing one side - there is after all a ringroad - and then make this area into a residential/dining experience - but the powers that be chose instead to stick to the status quo which wasn't working and will never work. It seems everyone can see that but the planning people. Noosa Village is also losing any appeal it might have had. It is small and only really used by those in Noosa Waters and surrounding area. Tewantin however is absolutely thriving and will continue to do so as it has a large surrounding population - which continues to grow. The village caters for most things - supermarket, banks, cafes, clothes shops, skin/doctors clinics, dentists, vets, chemists even the Council Office. It would however be nice if someone could do something about that aweful eyesore The Royal Mail. Surely someone could force the owners to at least give the dump a fresh coat of paint!! It covers a large area and it really beggars belief that it is allowed to remain in such a run down state. The gutters are rotten and it is only a matter of time before there is an accident when one collapses completely. I know a lot of people will say ok go to Maroochydore if you want to shop but I would like to be able to go to my own shopping centre and have an equally enjoyable experience. I love the National Park and main beach and I love to walk along Gympie Terrace and I love eating out in Noosa. Gympie Terrace has some of the best eateries in the shire. Yes, I love all these things but I also like to shop. I hope when everything is taken into consideration you will allow the application to go ahead. Kind Regards. Yours sincerely Irene Hurley
