Properly Made Submission (Object) Joy Ringrose MCU12/0184
Subject: nzw BCS 1192 MCU12/0184 Notice of Submission Joy Ringrose From: Joy Ringrose Date: 2013-06-04T01:26:15+00:00 To: Internet Mailbox Sunshine Coast Regional Council Re MCU12/0184: To Whom it May Concern, Like most people who live in this region, I am dismayed to hear that an application has been made to build a chicken farm in Cooroy. The application being is for the chickens to be raised and fattened at a rate of 250,000 birds every 3 months for chicken meat production. While such a venture goes against the old Noosa Plan, it is also a given that the birds will have intolerably ghastly lives. Chicken farming on this massive scale does not create a lot of new jobs. By its very design: 8 large sheds (100-110m X 16.5m) on a ridge line at an existing avocado farm, it is a highly intensive, low labour venture. My objections are not NIMBY in nature. This type of farming is the reason for the rise of human superbugs, as the only way to raise such a massive number of birds in such close proximity, without disease wiping them out, is to dose them with anti-biotics. We need to do better in our food production for the sake of our health, our environment, and the lives of these animals. Yours Sincerely, Joy Ringrose 29 Summit Rd, Pomona, 4568 ph 5485 1099
