 Numerical Modelling of Entrance Configurations

3.3.3 Boundary Conditions
Tidal water level variation recorded at the Mooloolaba gauge has been used to inform the offshore
water level boundary condition. The model calibration process included testing temporal offsets
applied to the water level timeseries to account for the tidal phase difference between Mooloolaba
and the offshore boundary (estimated to be 20 min). A minor amplitude adjustment (~5 %) was also
applied between the Mooloolaba water level and Double Island Point, based on the published tidal
planes for the region (MSQ 2019).

The wind boundary condition derived from the NOAA CFSR and CFSv2 global datasets described
in Section 3.2.3 was also applied to the hydrodynamic model.

Wave boundary conditions derived from the SWAN models can be used to provide secondary forcing
to the hydrodynamic model. These are applied as spatially and temporally varying wave fields that
are then interpolated onto the TUFLOW FV flexible mesh. This is discussed further in Section 3.4.
