 Numerical Modelling of Entrance Configurations

3.5.2    Laguna Bay Waves
         The following wave parameter datasets were available for wave model development and calibration
         (locations indicated in Figure 3-1):

         • Mooloolaba Waverider Buoy operated by the Queensland Department of Environment and
           Science (DES). The instrument is permanently installed in a depth of approximately 32 m; and

         • Bottom-mounted ADCP within Laguna Bay. The temporary installation was in a depth of
           approximately 9.5 m between 10/03/2019 and 30/04/2019.

         Each dataset provides continuous recordings of significant wave height (Hs or Hsig), wave peak
         period (Tp) and wave direction.

         The model predictive skill for the ADCP deployment period is illustrated in Figure 3-5. The model
         reproduces the recorded wave parameters well, noting the following trends:

         • A tendency to slightly underpredict significant wave height peaks at the wave buoy and ADCP
           locations;

         • Accurate prediction of wave peak period at the wave buoy and ADCP locations; and

         • A slight under prediction of refraction at Noosa Headland and wave direction at the ADCP
           location.
