Column 3 Response
The proposal is not for the purpose of constructing new jetties or wharfs.
The proposal is not for the purpose of constructing new jetties or wharfs
Site 11 is the only oyster reef restoration units proposed to be located on the Southern bank between Noosa River and tributaries between Noosa Heads Lions Park and Weyba bridge. It is understood the intent of this performance outcome is to protect the natural amenity on this stretch of riverbank. The proposal for restoration of oyster recruitment sites is to enhance and restore the natural value of the environment using natural processes and is therefore inkeeping with the anticipated intent of this specific outcome.
The proposal is not for extensions of on –site recreational areas.
This performance outcome appears to be related to establishment of Jettys within Noosa river. However where applicable the following responses are relevant: a)not applicable b)not applicable (not for vessel berthing) c)the oyster reefs are designed to restore a natural habitat that was historically harvested from the estuary and become a natural asset of the estuary. The reefs will be positioned in the intertidal zone up the shore from the lowest astronomical tide height LAT with the built structure remaining below mean high water spring tide height (in accordance with the RPEQ certified design) d) to avoid conflict with recreational users, the oyster reef restoration sites have been located in areas that are not popular for recreational use, in particular away from areas where people usually access the foreshore (i.e. along the southern bank of the main Noosa River Channel). e) cluttering of the watercourse is related to boat cluttering. The oyster reef restoration units have been designed to be placed either outside of a designated navigational channel or on the edge of a navigation channel and above LAT. f) the oyster reef restoration units are designed to be a natural asset and will not increase traffic volumes within foreshore areas g & h) the oyster oyster reef restoration units are proposed to encourage natural recruitment of oyster spat that already occurs naturally within the Noosa River estuary. The purpose of the project is to restore a component of the natural environment using structures derived from natural materials (dead oyster shell and coir mesh) to blend with the receiving environment, therefore this Performance outcome is met.
Not applicable – this development is not a jetty or wharf
Not applicable- the development is not for boat lifting devices
Not applicable-the development is not for jetties, pontoons or wharves
