SERVICES & ORGANISATION COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 10 DECEMBER 2019

Cash and Debt

The graph below shows Council’s cash and debt holdings as at June 2019 compared to the
previous 4 years. Both cash and debt levels decreased during 2018/19 due primarily to the one
off $10 million repayment made on debt inherited at de-amalgamation (noting however that
Council’s net cash position increased by 3.8 million compared to 2017/18).

Council’s net financial liabilities ratio of -13.8% improved from the previous year (-12.6%) and
remains well within the Queensland government benchmark of not greater than 60%.

Given ongoing uncertainty moving forward regarding potential federal and state funding levels for
local government, and climate change implications on Council operations and infrastructure
requirements, it is prudent that capacity is maintained within cash and debt balances to manage
any unexpected (or expected once known) shocks.
