EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Not applicable.

RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Community Facilities Manager to the Services & Organisation
Committee meeting dated 9 March 2021 providing an update on the activities of the Noosa Leisure
Centre for the period 1 July to 31 December 2020.

REPORT
1. Facility overview

The Noosa Leisure Centre (NLC) caters for badminton, futsal (indoor soccer), netball, basketball,
volleyball, pickleball, kids’ playroom, group fitness classes, indoor rock climbing, corporate training
including Council programs and school sessions, special events and venue hire. Meeting and
conference rooms are also available for hire. The indoor rock-climbing wall is managed by an
external contractor.

2. Financial performance

The objective of all services within the Community Facilities branch is to balance the demands of
access, equity and community service obligations with sound financial management and to improve
revenue through innovative and entrepreneurial approaches, whilst minimising operational costs.

It is important to note that COVID-19 had a significant impact on the financial performance of all of
Council’s community facilities in the first half of 2020/21, mainly because operating restrictions
mandated by the State Government led to revenue reductions. That said, revenue budgets were
adjusted prior to the commencement of the year and these adjustments were based on a
conservative assumption that the facilities would not operate at all in Q1. The consequence of this
was that while revenue was down on prior corresponding periods, it was actually up against the
revised budgets.
