RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Community Development Coordinator to the Infrastructure &
Services Committee Meeting dated 14 October 2014 and:
A. Fund the Kin Kin Community Group $1,200 under the Community Grants 2014/2015 round
for the Kin Kin Community Christmas Celebrations 2014; and
B. Fund the Lions Club of Cooroy and Pomona Inc. $1,500 under the Community Grants
2014/2015 round for the Pomona Night of Lights 2014.
REPORT
The purpose of this report is for Council to consider and endorse two festive season event
applications under the Community Grants Program for the 2014/2015 financial year. The two
applicants being:
1. Kin Kin Community Group Inc. for $1,200
2. Lions Club of Cooroy and Pomona Inc. for $1,500
Background
Sunshine Coast Council (SCC) funded a number of organisations through the Festive Season
Strategy and Minor Grants funding program. Both the Kin Kin Community Group Inc. and Lions
Club of Cooroy and Pomona Inc. assumed Noosa Council would be calling for a separate grants
round for Festive Season Minor grants as had previously occurred under SCC.
On finding out that there would not be a separate Festive Season Grant round they contacted
Council’s Community Development team who advised they make an application to the
September 2014 Community Grant round.
As the 2014 festive season is only two months away the Community Development Coordinator
and the Director Community Services have assessed the applications from these two groups and
bought them forward for Council decision one month earlier than the other Community Project
grants.
Implementation
Following endorsement of this report, the two grant applicants will be notified of the outcome. If
the applications are successful, funding will be distributed in November 2014 providing the
successful applicants have no outstanding debt to Council.
