Text Figure 10: Typical subsurface profiles TP1 - sandstone (LHS) and TP7 - siltstone (RHS) 4.8 Groundwater It is noted that the investigation was completed during a period or prolonged heavy rainfall, however no signs of groundwater seepage at the surface (‘springs’) were observed during our walk-over. Groundwater seepage was encountered in five of the twelve test pits during the investigation at depths of between 0.1 m and 0.9 m BGL. It is inferred that the groundwater seepage encountered during the test pitting was surface waters (from the recent rainfall) perched in the sandy upper soils, that were underlain by less permeable clays/silts than an established groundwater table. It should be noted that groundwater conditions are expected to be reflective of prevailing weather conditions and seepage may develop or at higher levels, particularly in the sands following periods of prolonged or heavy rainfall.
