5.3. Separation Distance Requirements.

One of the most important parameters to consider in the location of Land Application
Areas is the separation distances, both vertical and horizontal. Poorly or
inappropriately selected ground may contribute to the pollution of surface water and
groundwater, ponding and eutrification.

Surface Horizontal Separation distance requirements

Feature Primary Secondary a. Sm
Permanent watercourses (lake/stream/river) 50m 30m 10m
Intermittent watercourses (dams/channels/weirs) 50m 30m 10m
Bore (human and or domestic consumption) 50m 30m 10m
EMT boundary unlined/open stormwater drainage 50m 30m 10m
Property boundaries/paths/walkways 4m downslope 2 m upslope boundary
Dwellings/play areas 15m 10m spray 10m spray

Vertical Separation distance requirements

‘ ‘ Advanced
Depth of unsaturated soil to Primary | Secondary Secondary
Permanent watertable 1.2m 0.6m 0.3m
Bedrock/hardpan 1.2m 0.6m 0.3m

5.4 Effluent Quality.

Effluent quality requirements must be confirmed with the relevant local council
before proceeding and when tested shall comply with the following;

Effluent Quality Primary | Secondary = dara
Biochemical Oxygen Demand (mg/litre) 120-240 <20 <10
Total Suspended Solids (mg/litre) 65-180 <30 <10
Total Nitrogen (mg/litre) 36-45 <30

Total Phosphorous (mg/litre) 6-10 <10

Thermotolerant Coliforms (organisms/100mL) <200 <10
