1.5 Impacts on flora and fauna habitat
Potential direct and indirect impacts to existing flora and fauna habitat from the proposed works
include:
Loss of 14-16 significant native trees which have a diameter at breast height (dbh) of
500 – 800mm, which are providing shade, habitat and arboreal connectivity in the
bushland adjacent to the built environment.
Loss of 35-40 native trees which have a dbh of 200 – 500mm, that provide
supplementary shade, habitat and arboreal connectivity in the adjacent bushland.
Loss of some midstorey and understorey native trees, shrubs, grasses, sedges and
groundcovers that are providing shade and habitat in the bushland surrounding the
Vipassana Centre.
Loss or alteration of approximately 350 m2 of mapped remnant open forest (‘Least
Concern’ RE 12.9-10.17 and ‘Least Concern’ RE 12.3.11). It is noted that some of this
area is actually formed by lawn and track areas.
Loss or alteration of approximately 350 m2 of mapped Essential habitat for ‘Vulnerable’
fauna species: Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus), and Tusked Frog (Adelotus brevis).
Loss of approximately 5,430 m2 of vegetation including native vegetation, exotic
species and areas of maintained grass.
