Plans and drawings: the text below has words only, no drawings.
They sustain our way of life, support our economy, enable us to connect us to nature and to
each other and the underpin our health and wellbeing.
We recognise that these special places are not infinite and that without care our natural beauty,
our lifestyle, our sense of place could be lost.
Our Story (An Environmental Legacy)
Noosa has long recognised the importance of protecting its natural places.
This legacy has been built over many generations, and today is still fiercely defended by our
community. With more than 78%1 of respondents to the DMP survey, identifying the
environment as their top priority.
From the early declaration of Noosa Headland as a Town Reserve in 1879 to the many
successful community-led campaigns against large-scale developments through the 20th
century, Noosa’s story has always been one of passionate stewardship.
Today, as a long-standing UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and with nearly half (43%)2 of our shire
protected under conservation status, our commitment remains as strong as ever.
Noosa’s Destination Management Plan continues this proud tradition, ensuring the values
we’ve defended for decades are embedded in how we plan for our future.
