Balancing Benefits and Impacts
In addition to jobs and employment opportunities our community recognises the many benefits
of a strong tourism sector – from greater access to recreation and entertainment (42% of
respondents), to the variety of restaurants, cafés, and bars across a relatively small region
(37%). See graphs below4. These benefits are significant to our lifestyle.

However, alongside these benefits concerns have emerged.

For 28% of respondents, the most significant impact of tourism has been the loss of amenity,
lifestyle and liveability, a sense that the comfort and enjoyment of their local environment is
eroding.

These concerns were closely followed by reduced mobility, traffic congestion and overcrowding,
reflecting a shire-wide desire to protect the ease and quality of everyday life.

Environmental degradation (16%) also remains a concern, reinforcing the need to manage
tourism in a way that protects Noosa’s natural assets, safeguarding them for the future.
