Introduction
Noosa is a place people fall in love with – some stay for a weekend, others for a lifetime.

What draws us all here is Noosa’s timeless appeal – from ancient forests and beautiful beaches
to the enduring values that have shaped this land for over 65,000 years, guided by the Kabi Kabi
Peoples, the Traditional Custodians of Noosa’s lands and waters.

Over time, Noosa has grown, not just in popularity, but in complexity. Tourism has helped shape
Noosa’s economy and provided us with a strong identity, however it has also brought challenges
that are affecting our community.

The Noosa Destination Management Plan is our shared commitment to putting our
community first – protecting the lifestyle, environment, and character that make Noosa so
special to us all. Together, we’re building a thriving, sustainable economy in a way that respects
and upholds our values, our environment, and our home.

Our deep connection to this place and its lands and waters continue to guide Noosa’s future. It
underpins the Noosa Promise which invites residents, businesses and visitors to becomes
shared custodians and stewards of this place.

Together, we will tread lightly, honour the past and leave our lands and waters, better than we
found them.

Together, we are ensuring Noosa remains a place we’re proud to share. A place that stays
special – not just for today, but for generations to come.

The Challenge We’re Tackling Together

As Noosa’s popularity has grown, so too have the pressures.

We’re feeling the impacts of population growth, increased visitation, changing travel
behaviours, including the rise in short-stay rentals and day visitation as well as a changing
climate and increase in more extreme weather events – more widely and deeply across our shire
than ever before.

These challenges aren’t unique to Noosa, but our response can be. By working together, we
believe that Noosa can lead the way.

Our community has repeatedly called for a renewed focus on managing these issues. An
approach that’s bold and brave. One that redefines the important role of tourism in our future,
and one safeguards Noosa’s lifestyle, environment and identity firmly at its core.

Noosa’s Destination Management Plan resets the balance.

This plan is about ensuring tourism is a force for good – supporting and protecting Noosa’s
environment, lifestyle and values while continuing to contribute to a thriving economy.
