17 The Esplanade, Sunshine Beach Report Table 5-2 Design Storm Events for Short-term Beach Erosion Assessment Storm Component Storm Event 100-year ARI Significant Wave Height 6.2m Storm Tide 1.74m AHD Sea Level Rise - An assessment of the short-term erosion associated with the event presented in Table 5-2 was undertaken for the surveyed beach profiles shown in Figure 2-12. The survey data was supplemented with a Digital Elevation Model (ELVIS, 2024) for the stable high dune areas. The profiles for the assessment have been labelled Sections A-A (500m south of the site), B-B (the site) and C-C (500m north of the site) refer Figure 5-3. The storm erosion profile has been derived from Vellinga (1983) based on the design wave and water level presented in Table 5-2. The short-term erosion distance has been measured horizontally from the current toe of the frontal dune to the base of the predicted erosion scarp. As discussed above in Section 2.3.1 the current toe of frontal dune is 2.3m AHD which is higher than the design water level 1.74m AHD. The average of the short-term erosion values for Sections A-A, B-B (the site), and C-C provides a representative short-term erosion value for this compartment spanning 1km of Sunshine Beach. Table 5-3 presents the predicted short-term erosion associated with the 100-year ARI design storm event for the three profiles. This shows an average storm erosion cut of 17m is predicted to occur for this section of Sunshine Beach. The storm cut profile for the three beach profile sections are shown in Figure 5-4 (Section A-A), Figure 5-5 (Section B-B) and Figure 5-6 (Section C-C).
