Submission Proposed Development 3 Robert Street Noosaville Short —
Term Accommodation (Application reference: MCU20/0115)

We reside as owner resident at 13 Laburnum Crescent Noosaville.

We have concerns with the Application for Material Change of Use to 3
Robert Street Noosaville.

Under the proposed New Noosa Plan Council proposed zoning changes
to long established low-density residential areas to create new Short
Stay accommodation areas. This included our residential zone, which
was strongly objected to by our community. Council clearly
demonstrated its support by retaining the status quo. This application
seeks to embed short stay holiday renters amongst permanent
residents.

The consequences for our locality include overcrowding, damage to
fragile environments, traffic congestion, parking chaos and physical
disruption for residents trying to access their homes. Even now locals
struggle with parking overflow and access to their streets during event
weekends and at peak holiday times.

Noise pollution, pressure on public facilities and rising rents are also of
concern.

Whilst we respect the applicants right to apply for a Material Change of
Use, Council needs to ensure any permit is achieved in a sustainable way
that does not adversely impact on traditional residential housing. An
exemption from our current zoning status to one that creates short stay
accommodation is not a viable solution to Noosa’s growing popularity
and threatens a sustainable balance.

Council has previously stated:

“Council seeks to protect traditional residential housing and
neighbourhoods used for permanent living from the potential negative
impacts of short-term visitor accommodation to maintain the amenity
and lifestyle enjoyed by residents.”

We feel strongly that Council must uphold its promise to residents.
