The following Definitions apply within this Report:
Ammunition: A device charged with explosives, propellants, pyrotechnics, initiating composition, or nuclear,
biological or chemical material for use in connection with defence or offence including demolitions. Certain
ammunition can be used for training, ceremonial or other non-operational purposes.
Ammunition Produce: Non-explosive stores and components used in the assembly or the initiation of ammunition.
Explosive Ordnance (EO): All munitions containing explosives, nuclear fission and fusion materials and biological
and chemical agents. This includes bombs and warheads; guided and ballistic missiles; artillery, mortar, rocket and
small arms ammunition; all mines, torpedoes and depth charges; demolition charges; pyrotechnics; clusters and
dispensers; cartridges and propellant actuated devices; electro-explosive devices; clandestine and improvised
explosive devices; and all similar or related items or components explosive in nature.
Explosive Ordnance Waste (EOW): Inert material remnant from the initiation or functioning of explosive ordnance.
Field Validation Survey (FVS): A percentage field sampling activity designed to determine whether an area is
affected by UXO, the boundaries of any affected area, the location of impact points within any affected area and the
nature and concentration of UXO within any affected area (see also UXO Assessment).
Fragmentation: Metallic fragments of the fractured casing of EO resultant from the initiation of high explosive filling
and often projected at high velocities over considerable distances from the point of initiation.
Hazard Reduction Operation (HRO): An operation designed to reduce the EO hazard within the boundaries of an
affected area (see also UXO Remediation).
Military Produce: Any item identified as military in origin that is not ammunition-related.
Safeguarding: An operation designed to monitor excavation or drilling processes in an area of potential UXO risk.
Small Arms: All arms, including automatic weapons of less than 20 mm in calibre and all gauges of shotguns.
Small Arms Ammunition (SAA): Ammunition for small arms, ie all ammunition of less than 20 mm in calibre, and
all gauges of shotgun cartridges.
Small Arms Ammunition Waste (SAAW): Inert material remnant from the transport, packaging, preparation, and
use of SAA.
Unexploded Ordnance (UXO): Explosive ordnance that has been primed, fused, armed or otherwise prepared for
action and which has been fired, dropped, launched, projected or placed in such a manner as to constitute a hazard
to operations, installations, personnel or material but remains unexploded either by malfunction or design or for any
cause. UXO includes items of military ammunition or explosives removed from their original resting-place for any
reason, including souveniring by members of the public.
UXO Assessment: An activity designed to determine whether an area is affected by UXO, the boundaries of any
affected area, the location of impact points within any affected area and the nature and concentration of UXO within
any affected area (see also Field Validation Survey).
UXO Investigation: A systematic examination to determine whether an area is affected by UXO. UXO Investigation
may include historical research, field assessment/survey activities and/or remedial works.
UXO Remediation: An operation designed to reduce the EO hazard within the boundaries of an affected area (see
also Hazard Reduction Operation).

1.0 INTRODUCTION
Adam & Sparkes Town Planning & Development contracted G-tek Australia Pty Limited (G-tek) to conduct
unexploded ordnance (UXO) Investigation within 27 Hill Street Sunshine Beach on the Sunshine Coast. These UXO
Investigations are considered necessary because of a “Substantial” potential for UXO contamination in these areas
because of the military training conducted during World War Two (WWII).
2.0 AUTHORITY TO UNDERTAKE THE TASK
Email Andy Pannifex (property owner)/Greg Guthrie Thursday 27Jun19.
3.0 OBJECTIVES
The objectives of this task were:
1. Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) investigation and clearance work of the residential site at 27 Hill Street,
Sunshine Beach,
2. Appropriate liaison for the disposal of any identified UXO in a timely and safe manner which will not impact
the proposed development;
3. The removal of explosive ordnance waste (EOW) from site;
4. Provide a Post Activity Report (PAR) detailing investigation/remediation methodology, results of all activities;
UXO/EO register and handover and recommendations of any further actions required. Confirmation of
confidence level regarding the results of all activities
4.0 NATURE OF THIS REPORT
This Report details the conduct of the Investigation and the results obtained. All relevant documentation is included
as part of this report.
5.0 DATES OF CONDUCT
Site investigation using a Foerster Ferex 4.032 Magnetometer was conducted on the 11th July 2019.
6.0 CONTRACTOR DETAILS
The contracting firm is G-tek Australia Pty Limited (G-tek) ABN 47 099 519 034; G-tek is a member of the current
Department of Defence Environmental & Heritage Panel (DEHP) and is qualified to conduct UXO related works.
6.1 Personnel
The following personnel were directly involved in this operation:
Project Supervisor Greg Guthrie

8.0 SITES CHARACTERISTICS AND PREPARATION
On arrival at the site, the G-tek team contacted Andy Pannifex (property owner) and was advised that the contracted
UXO clearance could proceed.
The site had been cleared of demolition materials, graded and enclosed by temporary fencing to restrict access and
outline limits of search.

10.0 UXO INVESTIGATION METHODOLOGY
The task was conducted by trained UXO operator applying a Foerster Ferex 4.032 Magnetometer along 0.5-metre-
wide parallel transects, over 100% of the site. The Foerster Ferex 4.032 provides the operator with both aural and
visual cues in the presence of ferrous metal. Each cue was intrusively investigated using manual digging tools with
the source positively identified and removed from its located area. The exception was a reinforced concrete pier that
could not be removed by manual excavation to a depth of 600mm and was left in situ.
Once the identified item was removed, the location was re-searched to ensure that the removed item was not
“masking” additional items; once this check indicated no additional items, search of the transect continued until it was
clear. This process was continued until 100% of each Site was investigated.

11.0 OUTCOMES
No items of unexploded ordnance (UXO) were identified during these investigations.
No items of Explosive Ordnance Waste (EOW) were identified during these investigations.
12.0 CONFIDENCE LEVELS
The personnel and equipment used for this investigation were appropriate for the task. In view of the capabilities of
the detection equipment, and search methodology applied to these Sites, a high level of confidence has been
achieved.
13.0 CONCLUSIONS
As a result of the UXO clearance, it is considered that the Site contains no remnant unexploded ordnance, explosive
ordnance or explosive ordnance waste that may impact required works.
14.0 RECOMMENDATIONS
As a result of these UXO Investigations, it is recommended that proposed development works proceed:
