RECOMMENDATION
That Council note the report by the Principal Environment Officer to the General Committee
Meeting dated 12 January 2015 and:-
A. Note that the Pest Management Plan Stakeholder Group has prepared a Draft Noosa Local
Government Area Pest Management Plan 2015-2019; and
B. Approve the undertaking of a 28 day public consultation process for the Draft Noosa Local
Government Area Pest Management Plan 2015-2019, as a requirement of the Land
Protection (Pest and Stock Route Management) Act 2002.
REPORT
On 26 June 2014 Council resolved at its Ordinary Meeting to develop a Noosa Local Government
Area Pest Management Plan as a requirement of the Land Protection (Pest and Stock Route
Management) Act 2002. A Pest Management Plan is a community plan, not just a Council Plan,
providing guidance on the management of Class 1, 2, and 3 declared plant and animal pest
species, and other species of local significance. Although the current Sunshine Coast Local
Government Area Pest Management Plan covers the Noosa Area, major amendments would be
required in 2015. It was also decided that a local plan would more effectively meet community
needs in managing pests in the Noosa Shire.
A Pest Management Plan Stakeholder Group has been formed to guide the development of the
plan. Group members are representative of the following organisations:
• Australian Veterinary Association
• Biosecurity Queensland
• Energex
• Gympie Council
• Mary River Catchment Coordination Committee
• Noosa Council (1 Councillor and 4 staff)
• Noosa Integrated Catchment Association
• Noosa Landcare
• Noosa Parks Association
• Queensland Department of National Parks, Recreation, Sports and Racing
• Queensland Rail
• SEQ Catchment
• Sunshine Coast Council
• Transport and Main Roads
• SEQ Water
