Re: Material Change of Use application, 25 Railway Parade, Pomona
(Lot 1 RP 147703)
Dear Ms Pienaar
I write concerning the application by Telstra Corporation/Downer EDI seeking material change of use
approval for an upgrade of the telecommunications facility located at 25 Railway Parade, Pomona
(MCU21/0151).
As a resident of Pomona, I have no objection to what’s proposed. However, I request that in
consideration of this matter Noosa Council include as a condition of its approval the following:
• That the applicant(s) paint the exterior of the existing building(s) on site.
• Given its prominent location on a bend in Railway Parade, that the whole site be extensively
landscaped.
The recent wet weather notwithstanding, Telstra maintains this site poorly. The grounds are often left
unmown, causing an appearance of an unkempt block. The existing lowset building has mould growing
on the outside and the shipping container on concrete piers is unattractive. Both should be painted and
accentuated with good quality landscaping to bring the entire site to a standard acceptable to, and in
keeping with, the front yards of houseproud residential neighbours in the immediate vicinity.
Effective landscaping would ‘soften’ the appearance of this site, given its position opposite Depper Park,
which the council maintains.
I note that Noosa Council has requested that landscaping be included in the project, but I believe the
plants and shrubs plan submitted by the applicant(s) is insufficient for the size of the block. The whole
of the block should be refurbished and landscaped, not just that portion around the new satellite dish.
A further condition I request Council make is that the approval include words to this effect:
“As a condition of its approval, Council requires that Telstra waters, weeds and generally maintains the
landscaped area for a period of 12 months, until the new plants and shrubs are established.”
Youra sincerely .
