Lake MacDonald Drive Cooroy - WMP
Workplace Management Plan
Lake MacDonald Drive, Cooroy
Mitigation measures may be implemented to achieve the nominated environmental outcomes and performance
criteria.
The following general requirements for waste management is provided below:
▪ Site management to ensure that there are adequate waste bins for the site area
▪ Waste materials to be separated on site and recycled wherever possible
▪ Allocate sufficient waste storage for the entire worksite
▪ Inductions to cover site rubbish disposal.
▪ Identify and implement strategies for the reuse of waste products generated during construction works.
▪ Transfer kerb and pavement materials (concrete, asphalt) to crushing and recycling plants
▪ Segregated and labelled bins for different waste streams
▪ Collect empty oil and fuel drums and other containers for return to licensed recycling facilities by a licensed
waste contractor
▪ Waste unable to be re-used, recycled or recovered must be disposed of in appropriately licensed
commercial landfill sites and sewage treatment systems
▪ For any contaminated soil or in-situ contaminated material that is identified onsite, works in that area will be
stopped immediately and the area declared a no-go zone until the extent and nature of the contamination
is identified. Depending on the type and nature of contaminated material, a treatment process will be
determined, and the material will be excavated if possible and removed from site via a suitably qualified and
licensed waste contractor. Alternatively, it may be stockpiled and segregated onsite where it can be treated
and tested to determine if the contamination remains.
Several initiatives are in place at Shadforth to provide best practice resource recycling, and reuse of certain
materials. For example, Shadforth reuse its waste concrete. Concrete waste, in the form of excess concrete
from concrete trucks and decommissioned footpaths etc. is stored onsite and transported to a Shadforth
processing facility. This concrete is crushed, and then converted into materials that can be reused onsite, such
as road base. Another initiative is during the bulk earthworks process, which involves the stripping and
stockpiling of topsoil for placement on final lots. All water for site dust suppression is sourced from onsite
storages where practical.
Shadforth use several waste contractors across the region. The waste contractors are all licensed operators,
such as JJ Richards, Kartaway, Cleanaway, and Whale Bins. These operators have a range of skip and
commercial bins available.
Monitoring will be undertaken at various sensitive receptors to validate the impacts predicted for the project and
to measure the effectiveness of environmental controls and implementation of this WMP. The monitoring also
helps in addressing any potential community complaints that may be made. The monitoring requirements
specific to waste are outlined below.
▪ Routine daily site inspections that include monitoring capacity of waste storage facilities and arranging
collections as required,
▪ Monitoring for the presence of vermin or odours in association with waste storage or handling and
monitoring for the presence of litter and general worksite tidiness
▪ Monitor for the presence of vermin, insects and pest levels and implement appropriate control measures,
as required
In the event of a waste management complaint the project management team apply the following procedure;
▪ Investigate the complaint through consultation with the complainant and client.
▪ Review the location and duration of the site activity, weather conditions, and any other events occurring at
the time of the complaint.
