2.3 THE NOOSA CENTRES NETWORK

In examining the role of the proposed development on the subject site, this section examines the
mix of activity centres within the surrounding area. A representative from Urban Economics
undertook site inspections of the relevant existing centres network in June 2016, noting each
centre’s location, role, function, quality and size. FIGURE 2.4 illustrates the network of centres
in which the proposed development would operate.

The Shire Business Centre is the highest order centre within Noosa and is largely defined by the
Noosa Civic shopping centre, which includes a Woolworth’s supermarket and Big W store, as well
as over 100 specialty stores and offices across more than 30,600m2 of GLA. A Woolworth’s service
station and small convenience store is located within Noosa Civic. No drive-through fast-food
outlets are located within the Business Centre.

Noosa Heads is the centre oriented around Lanyana Way and Sunshine Beach Rd. The centre
includes the Noosa Fair shopping centre (8,840m2) and Noosa Junction shopping centre
(5,100m2). Two service stations are located within Noosa Heads and no drive-through fast-food
outlets, commensurate with prevalence of local food outlets in this locality. KFC is the only
national fast-food chain in Noosa Heads.

The Noosaville Business Centre is defined by the Noosa Village shopping centre (4,834m 2), the
Noosa Homemaker Centre and the Mary Street strip which includes a number of houses and lots
converted for commercial office and health uses. Noosaville includes the Region’s only drive-
through fast-food outlet (McDonald’s).
