BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The process to recruit a permanent CEO commenced soon after the election of the Mayor
and Councillors in November 2013. An Australia wide recruitment campaign attracted
significant interest from candidates from across Australia and New Zealand.
Following initial assessment of all candidates by Council’s Recruitment Consultant, the Selection
Panel, comprising the Mayor, Cr. Noel Playford, Deputy Mayor Cr. Bob Abbot and Cr.
Frank Wilkie shortlisted the four most outstanding candidates for further and more
comprehensive assessment and interview.
The further assessment of the four candidates Included:
Detailed referee interviews and reports (four for each candidate);
Independent professional personality profiling for each candidate; and
An extensive candidate assessment process of informal and formal meetings and
interviews held over two days, involving all Councillors and a selection of senior
Council staff.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
Council, at it’s first meeting on 2nd January 2014, confirmed the roles and process for
the recruitment of the permanent CEO and authorised the Mayor to settle a Contract of
Employment with the successful applicant, on terms and conditions within the parameters set by
Council.
