I am writing to object to the proposed car wash in Cooroy.

The reasons for objecting to the car wash in current proposed location is as follows:

  1. Cooroy already has two problematic intersections due to traffic congestion/management, these being:
     * the rail bridge intersection at Myall Street - approx 100 metres from proposed carwash; and
     * the Elm Street/Diamond Street intersection - less than 100 metres from proposed carwash.
  2. This would make three major intersections within 200 metres and would be a nightmare for our little country town.
  3. How many vehicles/caravans etc does the proposed car wash envisage will visit during a day? Say it is 100, that is a lot of extra vehicles/caravans on those two intersections that are already struggling.
  4. Currently Opal Street is a school bus pick up and drop off zone for multiple schools. I am concerned with a busy three way intersection (road, petrol station and proposed car wash) that we could see an accident between caravan and child. I am very concerned with this as my son was hit by a car at the Diamond Street intersection 4 years ago.
  5. Your Mates Brewery is a great addition to the town however Opal Street and Kauri Street are now much busier streets. Opal and Kauri Street are residential streets and often have cars parked on their grass verge during busy periods at Your Mates Brewery. I live on Miva Street and it is not uncommon on a Saturday or Sunday to have traffic just stop in the middle of Opal street as they can’t find a park or some other reason which I have no idea!
  6. If the proposed car wash is also for caravans and the closest caravan wash is Yatala or Kilcoy, how many caravans are we going to see turning into Opal Street? How many caravan drivers will we see struggle through the intersection at Myall Street? How many caravans are going to be lined up on Opal Street waiting for their turn?
  7. Opal Street is residential. Why do we want to ruin that by putting in a big industrial car wash?
  8. Cooroy is a country town and we wish to continue that ambience and look of a country town. We do not want or need a large car wash in town. A car wash should be in the industrial estate, not in the centre of town and so close to residential.

We live no more than 300 metres from the proposed car wash and I do not want to hear the car wash during the day (when I am working) or the evening. I bought in Cooroy for a country life, not to see an eyesore car wash every day or to hear a car wash going all day/into evening.

I would love to see the car wash moved to the industrial area of Cooroy, where it belongs.

Regards,
Kym Rudkin
