PLANNING & ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA 10 MAY 2022
A significant number of changes to the RE maps were made to rectify discrepancies between
mapped and groundtruthed soil, geology and vegetation associations from Noosa Heads to
Cootharaba. Significant areas of high value regrowth and foreshore regrowth have been added to
the RE maps, reflecting the evolving status of this vegetation. Some of this regrowth provides
important habitat linkages for Koala or food sources for Glossy Black Cockatoos. A number of narrow
alluvial corridors that support conservation-significant rainforest, wet sclerophyll and melaleuca
ecosystems have been delineated within areas previously mapped as Eucalypt forest. This has
resulted in a 30% increase in Endangered gallery rainforest (RE 12.3.1). These areas provide habitat
for threatened frogs as well as micro-habitat refugia for other fauna species during periods of
prolonged drought. Key changes to the RE maps are summarised in Figure 2.
