Subject: SK BCS 1192 FYI Mayor and Councillors MCU13/0087 Notice of submission Pam Brownlee and Michael Brownlee From: [email protected] Date: 2013-10-17T07:08:36+00:00 To: Internet Mailbox Sunshine Coast Regional Council To Mayor Jamieson and councillors, We, as a Noosa Junction residents, strongly oppose the development of a Tavern, residential units ,liquor barn and a commercial education facility by Coles Group Property Development, on several issues. Firstly, I defy anyone to name one Tavern that does not end up a site of trouble caused by alcohol and those willing to engage in anti-social behaviour. Already Noosa Junction residents endure vandalism and alcohol fuelled fights as patrons leave the already established bars and clubs in Hastings St. the Junction and surrounds..With a husband who works in the taxi industry and privy to what goes on in the late evening and early morning hours,we find it inconceivable that a council would consider approving another similar establishment. Some night time drivers already refuse to pick up from the Villa Hotel and night club, which of course is Woolworths owned and of course who Coles hope to compete by this development. Secondly, this site is zoned Community Services and should continue to be used for recreational purposes.Pinaroo Park should be further developed, providing a much needed parkland and area for locals to relax and workers to take a much needed break. Noosa Heads and Noosa Junction desperately need more well developed parks as many residents move into units and homes built on ever decreasing house block sizes, devoid of areas to play and relax. These parks and recreational areas are essential for the physical, mental, emotional and social well-being of a community, and should not be used as places of business and as has happened in the Noosa Heads Lion's Park, events and a carpark ,especially during school holidays. If money is the main motivator for council to approve the acquisitions of these areas, they possibly need to rethink the monies that would be saved by providing their residents with opportunities and places to recharge and improve their physical and emotional health.Using these areas for what they were intended brings benefits to all residents, and not just to a select few. Finally, much money has been spent on rejuvenating Noosa Junction and one can see a gradual relaxed, interesting character developing. The type of development proposed for the bowls club is totally out of character for this local shopping centre. One can only hope that as a council you can withstand the pressures from this development group and say no. Yours faithfully Pam and Michael Brownlee. ________________________________ Email sent using Optus Webmail
